For this activity, we’d like you to create a messaging statements to help you understand the significance of effective messaging in product marketing.
By the end of the activity, you should be able to understand how effective messaging can influence consumer perception and decision-making and the creative process behind developing marketing messages that resonate with consumers.
And remember, you’ll only get out of it what you put in.
Duration: 30 minutes
Instructions:
- Choose a Product (5 minutes):
- Select a product you are familiar with or interested in. It could be anything from a tech gadget to a household item.
- Research (Optional, 5 minutes):
- Quickly research online about the product, specifically focusing on how it is marketed. Note the key phrases, slogans, or messages used in its marketing. (Skip this step if you already have a good understanding of the product’s current marketing messages.)
- Identify Key Features (5 minutes):
- List down 3 to 5 key features of the product. These should be the features that make the product stand out from its competitors.
- Understand the Target Audience (5 minutes):
- Identify the target audience for this product. Consider age, lifestyle, interests, and any other relevant demographics.
- Craft Your Message (10 minutes):
- Now, create a marketing message or slogan for the product. This message should:
- Be concise and memorable.
- Highlight at least one key feature of the product.
- Appeal to the identified target audience.
- Write two versions of the message. This will help you understand how even small changes can impact the perception of the message.
- Reflection (Optional, 5 minutes):
- Reflect on how the message you created would influence a potential customer. Consider how it aligns with the product’s identity and the needs or desires of the target audience.
- Think about how your message differs from the product's existing marketing, if applicable.
